Jonathan Milan triumphs in sprint in Follonica
After Filippo Ganna’s triumph in the opening stage, the second stage of the Tirreno Adriatico also closed in the sign of Italy. In the 192-kilometer stage starting in Camaiore and ending in Follonica, Lidl-Trek team rider Jonathan Milan finished ahead of everyone with a time of 4:45.13, beating Dutchman Maikel Zijlaard and Frenchman Paul Penhoet in a sprint.
Completing the top 5: Olav Kooij and Simone Consonni, who è was instrumental in providing the right wake for his compatriot and teammate from the Lidl-Trek team. Closing in seventh and eighth respectively are Ireland's Sam Bennett and Britain's Jake Stewart. Finally, Enrico Zanoncello also finishes in the top 10, finishing 10th behind Tim van Dijke and Bryan Coquard.
In the overall standings, Filippo Ganna maintains the Maglia Azzurra with a lead of 19" over Milan and 22" over Ayuso.
A few seconds after crossing the finish line, stage 2 winner Jonathan Milan said, "Last year we got here but I had failed to win. We treasured the experience and I would say we raced perfectly today. The guys guided and launched me exactly as we planned. È it was a beautiful day, we had the situation under control all the time. I am super happy and proud of my teammates.
