La Thuile, too much snow

Too much snow on the slope on La Thuile’s Franco Berthod, and Fis jury and organizers are grappling with changes to a program that must necessarily be streamlined.

After the cancellation of the first two runs of the downhill and, above all, in light of the fact that the weather does not promise anything good even for the next few days, the jury has decided to permanently cancel the downhill and keep the two super-Gs that will be staged on Thursday 13 and Friday 14, keeping Saturday, March 15 as a reserve day, in case one of the two races cannot be held.

Both super-Gs will start at 11 a.m. and will be used to define the specialty ranking, which currently has Lara Gut- Behrami in the lead with 465 points, ahead of Federica Brignone with 410 and Sofia Goggia with 306. The downhill ranking will be decided in the Sun Valley Finals race, where Brignone will have to defend her 384-point haul, compared to Cornelia Huetter’s 368 and Goggia’s 350.

The group of participants in the downhill finals is thus consolidated, as far as Italy is concerned. As many as 6 Italian women included in the top 25 will detach their ticket to Idaho: Brignone (1st), Goggia (3rd), Laura Pirovano (6th), Marta Bassino (21st), Nicol and Nadia Delago (23rd and 25th).
