With the draw for the Miami Open main draw concluded, the possible crossovers for the tournament’s leading players are outlined, with the Italians ready to compete to overcome the difficult obstacle of international competition. Jasmine Paolini, Lucia Bronzetti and Elisabetta Cocciaretto are the Italian representatives at the start, with two other compatriots, Lucrezia Stefanini and Sara Errani, still involved in qualifying.
Paolini, the No. 6 seed, will face the winner between Sramkova and a first-round qualifier, thanks to her bye. The Tuscan player è inserted in the upper part of the draw, where the number 1 seed, Aryna Sabalenka, stands out. A possible interesting match for Paolini could occur in the round of 16 against Russian Samsonova, who beat her in Indian Wells decisively (6-0, 6-4). In the third round, Paolini could also meet Ons Jabeur, one of the circuit’s most dangerous surprises.
For Elisabetta Cocciaretto, the debut will be against Romanian Sorana Cirstea, a match that is anything but easy, and if she wins she will face the winner of the last edition Danielle Collins. Lucia Bronzetti, on the other hand, will face Spain’s Bouzas Maneiro, a match that on paper looks within her reach, with a presumed second round match against Maria Sakkari, a former top 10 player, if she wins.
The scoreboard also offers some fascinating matches: at the bottom, Iga Swiatek could find Karolina Muchova in the round of 16, a challenge that promises spectacle. Also, in the second round, Petra Kvitova and Sofia Kenin will compete in a match between two former slam champions, with the winner facingà Coco Gauff. Poland’s Swiatek, winner in 2022, could also cross paths with Caroline Garcia, with a possible remake of the final from three years ago.
With a number of intriguing matches ahead, the Miami Open promises to be full of surprises and compelling challenges, with the Italians ready to do battle.
