Bad news for Marcell Jacobs: injury is more serious than expected

After missing the first outdoor season fixture in Miami, Marcell Jacobs may have to stay in the pits for some time. The injury suffered in recent days during a training session, in fact, would be more serious than expected.
On the physical condition of the Tokyo 2021 Olympic champion wanted to clarify the FIDAL doctor Dino Petrucci: “Jacobs suffered a muscle injury to the hamstring of the left thigh. I have seen the MRI to which Marcell underwent in Miami and we are now evaluating his return to Rome to continue the path of recovery”.
Recovery timeframes would not yet be established with certainty, but the return to Italy would most likely affect the running record of the Italian-American runner, who would be intent on taking part in the two Diamond League legs scheduled for late April and early May and in the world relay championships.
Marcell Jacobs’s goal is to arrive in the best possible condition at the upcoming World Outdoor Championships, scheduled for Sept. 13-21 in Tokyo. For this reason, there would be no intention on the part of the Italian-American athlete to force his way back into the circuit.
The Italian-American athlete will not be able to compete in the world championships.
