Yesterday evening the Overall World Cup was handed over to Federica Brignone, the second one she has won, after in the previous days she had been given the smaller crystal balls reserved for the winner of the downhill and giant slalom rankings.

Surely a huge thrill for the 34-year-old Val d’Aosta outperformer, who had not been able to experience it at her first overall cup win five years because the last races, including the finals in Cortina d’Ampezzo, were cancelled because of the Covid, and the big cup was sent to her in a package at home along with the giant and combined ones.

This year, however, Federica was able to fulfill her dream with the actual delivery of the Cup at the end of the women’s slalom in Sun Valley, which she did not compete in. Here are the words of the Italian to the microphones of Sky Sport 24.

“Winning the overall was an impossible dream as a child. The first one came a little bit’ so, this one I played it to the end. After the super-G in La Thuile I knew I had won it. My strength was solid skiing and a calm mindset. Thanks would be so many but I thank my family and my skiman, who was the only one who believed I could win the downhill cup. The Olympic gold I miss? I don&#8217t need it to be the athlete I am, I think I have already proved enough.
