Jannik Sinner’s disqualification is drawing to an end: as of April 13, he will be able to train without limitations and the following month he will return to the court on the surface that suits him best, clay, participating in the Internationals of Italy at the Foro Italico in Rome, a key stage ahead of the second Slam of the year, Roland Garros.

Adriano Panatta, who Rome and Paris won them in his magical 1976 year, was asked by Corriere del Trentino about the now imminent return of the world number 1. The 74-year-old iconic Italian tennis man speculates on how Sinner will deal with his return to the court and says he is convinced he will do well right away. Here are his words.

“Logically, nobody liked this stop, I found it very unfair and I also said it officially, however, I think Jannik is now living it well. Or at least, as a mature and intelligent guy as he is and as he has always shown himself to be.”

“I think Sinner is using this period of forced downtime in the best possible way, to train as much as possible on clay and return to his best. Jannik’s first commitments upon return will be on clay at the Foro Italico Masters 1000 and then it will be time for the Slam tournament in Paris.”

“I think he will be looking forward to being ready on clay, not forgetting that in Rome he will get his fill of affection and it will be very important after what he has been through this period. And at the end of the year, in November, there will be the Davis Cup Final 8 in Italy in Bologna: there too I think the Italian public will make him feel how much they love him.”
