Milan, Loftus-Cheek misses Napoli: appendicitis attack for the Englishman

Bad news in the Milan household ahead of the important away match against Napoli. The challenge that is scheduled for tonight at 8:45 p.m. will see Ruben Loftus-Cheek absent. The English midfielder, who seemed to have found his form in recent weeks, has been forced to stop due to an attack of appendicitis. The player, in fact, experienced severe abdominal pain during the team’s training camp in Naples. This necessitated his hospitalization for clinical examinations. Tests confirmed the diagnosis of acute appendicitis, which will require surgery to remove the’appendix.
According to the club’s official statement, Loftus-Cheek will undergo surgery this afternoon at a clinic in Naples. This definitely rules him out of the game against Napoli. The absence of one of Milan’s midfielders comes at a delicate time of the season.
In his replacement, coach Conceição will have to rely on the trio of Bondo, Fofana and Reijnders. Despite the prowess of the substitutes, Loftus-Cheek’s absence will be felt, as the midfielder had begun to show signs of growth and reliability just this late in the season.
Loftus-Cheek’s condition will be monitored daily, but his presence for next Wednesday’s Coppa Italia derby against Inter Milan is currently in high doubt. Milan does not want to risk an early recovery, to avoid complications that could lengthen recovery time.
For Milan, then, this absence represents another obstacle in a season that continues to hold unexpected contingencies. Conceição’s team will have to rely on other solutions in order not to lose ground in the league and other competitions.
