Perfectly successful surgery for Federica Brignone

The ski season ended in the worst way for Federica Brignone. After winning the overall, giant and downhill World Cups, the skier from Valle d’Aosta suffered a very bad fall during the second run of the women’s giant at the Lusia Ski Area in Val di Fassa, which was valid for the Italian Championships.

After being flown by helicopter to the ’Hospital “La Madonnina” in Milan, initial investigations revealed a multifracture fracture of the tibial plateau and the head of the fibula, thus making surgery essential.

“The operation to which Federica Brignone underwent at the La Madonnina clinic in Milan following her fall during the second run of the women’s giant slalom at the Ski Area Lusia in Val di Fassa (Tn), valid for the Italian Championships, was concluded in the evening.

The surgery, which was perfectly successful, was performed by FISI Medical Commission President Andrea Panzeri in collaboration with Drs. Riccardo Accetta (Head of the Traumatology Operating Unit at IRCCS Ospedale Galeazzi-Sant’Ambrogio), Gabriele Thiebat (FISI Medical Commission) and Alberto Zangrillo (Chief of the Operating Unit of General Anesthesia and Resuscitation at IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele in Milan) and was necessary for the reduction and synthesis of the multi-fragmentary compound fracture of the tibial plateau and the head of the fibula of the left leg, as well as the ligamentous repair of the medial compartment of the knee.
