The second session of the free practice at the Suzuka circuit, site of the Japanese GP, the third round of the F1 World Championship, was stopped for several minutes because of a bad accident that occurred to Jack Doohan.

The driver of the’Alpine crashed into the barriers of Turn 1 at a very high speed (over 300 km/h). Fortunately, the Australian emerged from the cockpit with his own legs and was taken for the usual visits to the medical center (his father was also present).

“I do not know what happened”, the words uttered by Jack Doohan himself after the violent bang against the barriers in Turn 1. Single-seater, of course, completely destroyed (with tangible consequences on the seasonal budget of the’Alpine).

Still unclear about the causes of the accident’accident. The strong wind that is affecting free practice at Suzuka may have had an impact. Another hypothesis could be the DRS left on that would have caused the rear end to lose grip, causing the Alpine to leave the track and the inevitable crash. It remains to be seen whether Jack Doohan will recover and be given the green light, by the medical staff, to participate in Saturday’s qualifying and Sunday’s race. The session was stopped, again due to a red flag, a second time, this time for a off-track Fernando Alonso. Definitely reduced session since a third red flag also came for a fire start (due to sparks from the single-seaters) on the track.
