China GP cancelled

The news was in the air but now it is official: even in 2023, Formula 1 will not be a stop in China.

The GP was supposed to be run on April 16 at the Shanghai track but organizers have raised the white flag, again due to the country’s Covid-related complications.

As far as the calendar is concerned, there are alternatives under consideration to replace the canceled race, such as Portimao, but nothing concrete has yet been finalized: it will be discussed again in January, with the serious risk that the World Championship will have a four-week gap between the Australian GP in Melbourne on April 2 and the Azerbaijan GP in Baku on April 30. It cannot be ruled out that this cancellation will still lead to other date shifts.
