Kevin De Bruyne-Manchester City: the end of an'era

After a remarkable nine seasons and 19 trophies, Kevin De Bruyne and the Manchester City officially parted ways. Making the farewell at the end of the season known was the Belgian trequartist himself through a long message on his own social profiles: “Dear Manchester, seeing this message, you probably already understand where I am going with this. So I will get straight to the point: these will be my last months as a Manchester City player.
It is not easy to write these words, but as footballers we all know that, sooner or later, this moment comes. That day has come and you deserve to hear it directly from me. Soccer brought me to you and to this city. Chasing my dream, I could not imagine that this path would change my life. This city, this club, these people… have given me EVERYTHING. I could do nothing but give back EVERYTHING! And you know what? We won EVERYTHING. Whether we like it or not, it is time to say goodbye.
.
Suri, Rome, Mason, Michèle and I are extremely grateful for what this place has meant to our family. “Manchester” will forever be written on our children’s passports and, more importantly, will forever remain in our hearts. This will always be our HOME. We cannot thank the city, the club, the staff, teammates, friends and family enough for this incredible ten-year journey. Every story has an end, but this has undoubtedly been the best chapter of my career. Let us enjoy these last moments together! Love, Kevin”.
On De Bruyne’s farewell to the Citizens, his coach Pep Guardiola also spoke at the presentation press conference ahead of the Manchester derby against United: “It’s a happy day, because of the pleasure I had in living this time with him. Everything he has given us, his humanity and his influence in our successes over the past decade. It would have been impossible without him. At the same time, however, it is a sad day because he is part of us and he is leaving.
Like when Kompany, Aguero or David Silva left. There are still 10 games left, hopefully 11. Six of them at home, where I hope the fans will offer De Bruyne the love and recognition he deserves. The important thing is that he feels good. We talked to Kevin, he had problems, but now after the operations and his physical problems he feels better. We wish the best to him and his family”.
