Luciano Darderi flies to semifinals in Marrakech: revenge on Kopriva

Luciano Darderi won a great victory in Marrakech, overcoming Czech Vit Kopriva in the quarterfinals of the Atp 250 by the score of 7-5 6-2. This success comes as an immediate rematch for the Italian, who only a few days ago, last weekend, had lost to the same opponent in the final at the Naples Challenger. The defeat in Naples had been one of the most painful of his career, coming at the end of a grueling fight that was resolved at the tie-break of the deciding set. However, Darderi had no mercy this time, beating Kopriva with a decisive and authoritative performance.
After a balanced first set, won 7-5, the Italo-Argentine tennis player took full control in the second partial, inflicting on Kopriva a clear 6-2. This result confirms Darderi’s return to the top, after a difficult start to the season, and propels him into the semifinals, a goal he has been missing since May 2024, when he was defeated by Argentine Etcheverry at the Lyon tournament.
In the semifinals, Darderi will meet Spain’s Roberto Carballes Baena, current world number 51. The Spaniard overcame Portugal’s Borges in two sets in his quarterfinal match, showing good form. The two have faced each other before, with Carballes Baena winning both challenges in the Seville (2021) and Las Palmas (2022) Challenger tournaments. However, Darderi will surely have the motivation to redeem himself and continue on his way to a possible final, with the goal of continuing to improve his Atp ranking.
