Giro d'Abruzzo: first stage goes to Alessandro Covi

Alessandro Covi, bearer of the UAE Team Emirates XRG won the first stage of the 151-km-long Giro d’Abruzzo, starting in Scerni and finishing in Crecchio. Filippo Fiorelli (VF Group BardianiCSF-Faizanè) and Alessandro Fancellu (JCL Team Ukyo) placed second and third, respectively.
Thanks to this victory, Alessandro Covi wears the first blue-and-white jersey of this edition. “It“s really nice to return to victory after three years– he said warmly -. It’s been difficult, but we are professionals and we work every day for this”.
“When I saw that I would be racing The Giro d’Abruzzo, I studied the route as I do before every race and realized that this finale could be a good opportunity for me” added the 26-year-old cyclist from Lombardy.
“With the team we did what was necessary to get a tight group to the finish. I tackled the’last tear giving everything, right from the’entrance. I have had some bad luck in the past, but it is not worth looking back. I look to the present and the future and I am happy to be back at a good level” concluded Covi.
