In the course of a lengthy interview given to the microphones of “Supertennis”, Lorenzo Musetti’s coach Simone Tartarini, among the various topics discussed, dwelt on the recent moment of form that the Carrara native is going through, culminating with reaching the first career 1000 final in Monte Carlo. More specifically, the coach spoke bluntly about areas of improvement on the part of his client.

“With Lorenzo we are doing a very long work, especially set on the character and emotional management aspect. We all know that his peak performances are very high, because when he plays well, his tennis is top 5. The difficulties come when technically and tactically there&#8217s something wrong, and in these cases he has often struggled to keep his emotions in check. In Monte Carlo, however, despite often getting off to a bad start he has always managed to stay within the match. It’s a very important step forward, because if he learns to manage his nervous and mental energies better he will be able to win more matches and go higher and higher” began the coach of the Carrara native.

“It&#8217s undeniable that he likes big stages, but that doesn&#8217t mean he snubs smaller tournaments.

His limitation I think is related to his performance. In less prestigious tournaments, perhaps, he can&#8217t find the same confidence, but if he starts to understand that his tennis can work even on bad days, the situation will get better and better. It&#8217s an emotional matter, a matter of being able to learn to feel more confident even when not everything is working at its best” added the staff member of the new world No. 11.

“Lorenzo still needs to improve in terms of continuity on ball speed. He needs to find more direct points on serve so that he avoids playing too many kicks. On cement, in fact, it will be this very factor that will allow him to make the leap in quality on that surface. The rest is a matter of self-confidence: when he does not feel comfortable on the court he tends to back off, while he needs to act faster and attack the ball” concluded Simone Tartarini.
