Italian sport remembers Pope Francis. Malagò: "Inconsolable sorrow"

There are numerous messages of condolences arriving from all over the sports world, which have expressed their grief following the news of Pope Francis’ death, confirmed on Monday morning by the Holy See. In particular, the president of CONI, Giovanni Malagò, spokesperson for the condolences of Italian sports.
“Italian sport, deeply saddened, joins in the inconsolable grief for the passing of the Holy Father Francis, Jorge Mario Bergoglio. The world has been orphaned of a spiritual guide who was able to enlighten the path of the faithful and the entire community – explained Malagò -, thanks to his message inspired by brotherhood, mutuality and those values that represent the goal to which we yearn to build a better society”.
“I remember with emotion and pride the 2014 audience in which he received the entire Italian sport in St. Peter’s Basilica to celebrate the Centenary of CONI and our history, as well as the unconditional adherence to the Olympic spirit that can help achieve those goals of the soul to be pursued daily. To pay homage to the memory of Holy Father Francis is to renew this commitment in his unforgettable memory”.
“Pope Francis has enlightened consciences by constantly demonstrating his closeness to our world, sharing its ideals and goals” added the number one of Italian sports, who at the same time invited national federations, associated disciplines and sports promotion bodies to suspend all sports activities scheduled on Monday, April 21, and to observe a minute’s silence in competitive events scheduled in Italy during the rest of the week, to mourn the passing of the Holy Father Francis and honor his memory.
