Jannik Sinner won the Australian Open 2025 in last January, beating Alexander Zverev in three sets in the final. A result that the German, who is busy in the coming days at the Madrid Masters 1000, admitted he has not yet accepted nor fully digested. And the main reason is that he found out to his cost that he could not play it against the San Candido champion as he would have hoped.

“I came out of the Australian Open very upset – Zverev admitted to the press present in Madrid -The fact is that I was really convinced that I could win the final in Melbourne. I had gone into the court against Sinner thinking I had important chances to beat him. Then I realized that instead I didn’t have many. And that bothered me a lot, even though that is in the past now”.

“The Australian Open affected me for months– Zverev added -I had several things that didn&#8217t work anymore on a psychological level, but fortunately I have meanwhile overcome that phase. I’m coming from the tournament I won a week ago in Munich, and my confidence has soared. Because you cannot win a tournament if you play badly”.

“It is not just about pressure, for so long I really played badly myself. In tennis periods like that can happen. That is also why I am really happy that I won in Munich, now I have to continue like this. I must stop thinking about the defeat with Sinner at the Australian Open, and focus all my attention on the commitments of the coming weeks”, Zverev concluded.
