Inter’s Scudetto race is experiencing a delicate moment. After the bitter elimination in the Coppa Italia at the hands of AC Milan, new concerns arrive for Simone Inzaghi ahead of the crucial challenge against Roma. Marcus Thuram will not be in the match and will not even be on the bench: the Frenchman has not recovered from injury and will remain out of the squad for Sunday’s big match.

A heavy loss for the Nerazzurri, who will have to do without a striker who has proved to be fundamental in terms of balance and quality throughout the season. The medical staff’s goal is to recover him for the Champions League semifinal first leg against Barcelona, scheduled for the following week.

While Thuram’s condition does not leave room for optimism, more encouraging news is on Denzel Dumfries and Piotr Zielinski. Both participated in the training session in Appiano Gentile and could be called up for the match against the Giallorossi, although it appears difficult to see them on the field from the first minute. The Dutchman and the Pole could therefore come in handy in the running game, giving Inzaghi valuable options at a time of full emergency.

In addition to the absences due to injury, those due to disqualification will be added: Bastoni and Mkhitaryan will miss the challenge at the Olimpico, forcing the Nerazzurri coach to rethink the team’s set-up. Carlos Augusto and Frattesi are pawing for a starting spot, ready to pick up the baton.

The next training sessions will be decisive in assessing the real availability of the three injured players. Inzaghi is hoping for at least a partial recovery, but Inter will have to make a virtue of necessity in order not to jeopardize its path to the Scudetto.
