Following his defeat at the Madrid Masters 1000 against Alexander Zverev, Roberto Bautista Agut, among other topics discussed at the press conference, bluntly spoke out about the documentary on Carlos Alcaraz produced by Netflix.

“I don’t think Alcaraz will win a Grand Slam by going to bed at seven in the morning. High-level tennis requires a lot, everything is very good now and he is very young, but he has to understand that if he wants to match the numbers of the ‘three cracks’ he has to play 15 years at a high level. I consider him to be an intelligent player and person and I am sure he will gradually understand what he needs to reach that level and I am sure he will put it into practice” began the Spanish tennis player.

“I remember 10 or 12 years ago I was 14th in the world and I was the fifth Spanish player: I was ahead of tennis players like Rafa, David, Robredo, Verdasco and Almagro. Things have changed and we should do some self-criticism, hopefully the young players who will come after us will continue to progress and evolve, so that we can see more Spaniards in the round of 16 of the big tournaments” added the 1988 class.

“We need to see what is happening, what needs to be improved. I do not want to criticize anyone, least of all Spanish tennis, but we need to take an example from’Italy to move forward and continue to have good tennis players” concluded Roberto Bautista Agut.
