If the 2-2 draw in the Champions League quarterfinal return against Bayern had shown the first cracks (despite the qualification obtained), the defeats against Bologna and Roma in the league, interspersed by the thud in the Coppa Italia derby against AC Milan, have raised further questions about the resilience of the Inter;Inter in a season finale in which the Nerazzurri are nonetheless still in the running for Champions League and Scudetto, not to mention the new version of the Club World Cup that will debut, with the Nerazzurri on the field to represent Italy alongside Juventus, in early summer.

Massimo Moratti, a man who knows the Nerazzurri environment well having been president and owner of the club for two decades, tried to have his say on the Beneamata’s negative moment: “What I found strange was that we were still talking about the triplete, in my time we never talked about the triplete. It was not an’obsession” the Milanese entrepreneur commented at the microphones of ‘Kiss Kiss Napoli’.

“The defeat in the Coppa Italia has created a sorrow – then added Moratti, owner of Inter between 1995 and 2013 and winner of sixteen trophies, including five Scudetti, a Champions League and a World Club Championship -. Inter has suffered a confusion of objectives: we are a little bit’ tired, I think that for the Scudetto Napoli has a better chance. It’s all related to Conte“.

In the league, Inter will play the last four matches against Hellas Verona, Torino, Lazio and Como. In the Champions League, the next opponent is Barcelona: up for grabs is a place in the Munich final (the other semifinal is between Arsenal and PSG).

In the Club World Cup, the Nerazzurri have been placed in Group E, with Monterrey, Urawa and River Plate awaiting them.
