Madrid, Lorenzo Musetti flies to the round of 16: Stefanos Tsitsipas goes down again

Lorenzo Musetti’s adventure in the Madrid Masters 1000 continues: in fact, the Carrara-based tennis player overcame Stefanos Tsitsipas on Tuesday afternoon in the third round of the tournament on the clay of the Caja Magica, replicating the success against the Greek obtained last April 11 in Monte Carlo. 7-5, 7-6(3) was the score in favor of the Carrara native, after nearly two hours of play.
The match, in fact, starts badly for Musetti, who immediately goes down three games and finds himself chasing, just ahead, at 5-2: from there on, the blue player changes gears and wins as many as five consecutive games, two of them on his opponent’s serve, and thus arrives to conquer the first game fraction with merit.
Much less ‘breakneck’ the trend of the second set, with Tsitsipas and Musetti winning all the games on their own serve, thus taking the frazioen to the tie-break: in the decisive mini-game Musetti’s start is lightning fast and allows him to get to 6-0, Tsitsipas cancels three consecutive match balls but on the fourth one he hits badly with his forehand, giving the success to the Carrara man.
The Italian player is in gear and wins five consecutive games, two on his own serve, thus reaching the victory on merit.
With the withdrawal of Matteo Berrettini due to injury in the match against Jack Draper, Lorenzo Musetti thus remains the’last Italian in the running in the men’s singles draw: his next opponent will be Australia’s Alex de Minaur, who after beating Lorenzo Sonego in the second round won over Denis Shapovalov 6-3, 7-6(3) in the next match.
