Matthew Arnaldi’s adventure at the Madrid Masters 1000 continues smoothly. The tennis player from Liguria, in fact, beat Frances Tiafoe, number 17 in the ATP rankings and 16 in the seeding, with a final score of 6-3 6-4 in just under an hour and forty minutes of play.

In the first set, the balance was broken in the sixth game when the blue scratched the break at the second useful opportunity (4-2), confirming it on serve (5-2). Called to serve for the partial Arnaldi is very good at cancelling three counter-break balls, before closing on the final 6-3.

In the second set it is again the Sanremese who breaks the balance in the fateful seventh game at the first useful chance (4-3). At the best, however, Arnaldi lost the serve (5-5) with Tiafoe reopening the match. The American’s joy, however, was short-lived: the Ligurian took away his serve again (6-5) and closed on the first match point on the final 7-5.

Thanks to this victory Arnaldi reaches the quarterfinals of the Mutua Madrid Open where he will face the winner of the challenge between Jack Draper, who eliminated Matteo Berrettini, and Tommy Paul.
