Civitanova beats Trento and brings championship series back to a tie

On Labor Day, Giampaolo Medei’s men completed a great job. In a Eurosuole Forum overflowing in all sectors, with more than 4,000 cheering fans, Cucine Lube Civitanova won the second match against Itas Trentino 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-22) bringing to 1-1 the best-of-five-match series against the Dolomites, waiting to visit theT quotidiano Arena on Sunday, May 4, at 3:20 p.m., for Game 3.
The men’s team was able to win the second match against Itas Trentino.
Making the difference was the impact of top scorer Mattia Bottolo, awarded MVP with 16 points, including 6 at bat and 1 at the wall, and the mental toughness of the entire home team. Nikolov was also in double figures with 12 seals. On the Trentino front, former red and white Gabi Garcia (12), Michieletto (11) and Lavia closed in double figures.
In the first set, Lube prevailed thanks to Bottolo’s monstrous performance (9 points, with 4 of the team’s 5 aces), but Trento was present at the wall (4 the winners) and the set was decided with a final acceleration of the red-and-whites from 18-20 to 25-21.
The second set, after a point-to-point phase, sees Lube take the upper hand in all fundamentals, thanks to a Boninfante on the piece. The Cuccinieri closed with the same score as in the previous partial (25-21).
In the third set, the management of the fundamentals also smiles on the Marche collective, able to impose 25-22 with Nikolov’s 7 points.
The match
Cucinieri lined up with Boninfante at the setter and Lagumdzija as offensive terminal, Bottolo and Nikolov at the band, Chinenyeze and Gargiulo at the center, Balaso at libero. Guests on the court with Sbertoli at director and former red-and-white Gabi Garcia in place 2, Michieletto and Lavia in the band, Flavio and Kozamernik in the middle, Laurenzano libero.
At the end of the warm-up Adis Lagumdzija receives the Credem Banca MVP of the Scudetto Semifinals award from the hands of Benedetta Gentili, manager of the Credem Banca branch in Civitanova Marche.
Lube comes up with an excellent series on serve by Bottolo (3-0), but Itas immediately gets back on the mark and puts its nose ahead (6-7). It proceeds between overtakes and counter-overtakes until the red-and-white +3 scored by Bottolo with a one wall and two aces (13-10). Michieletto from nine meters keeps the set alive (15-14), which returns to a tie on an attack out by the hosts (18-18). Gabi Garcia’s ace and a Trentino wall send the guests into a double lead (18-20). Civitanova reacted immediately and tied with Boninfante’s ace, went back ahead with Bottolo (21-20), stretched thanks to an error by the Yellowoblùs (22-20) and found +3 on a wall (24-21) before closing with Bottolo’s ace (25-21).
The team was able to get back to the court.
On the return to the court there is balance, Michieletto breaks it with a diagonal break (7-9), but Civitanova stays in the wake and ties with Lagumdzija from nine meters (11-11). Itas finds a second break with Sbertoli’s one-on-one wall (13-15), Civitanova nullifies it with Chinenyeze’s block (15-15), while Gabi Garcia’s out attack sends the Marche’s ahead (16-15), Boninfante’s ace and Bottolo’s velvety touch after a miracle by Balaso are worth +3 (18-15). On 18-16 Loeppky comes in for Lagumdzija and puts his name on the scoreboard (19-16) before giving way to the Turkish national, who signs a winning wall, followed by Gargiulo’s for 21-17. Medei’s team closes 25-21 after an attack by Bottolo made rebuilding difficult.
In the third set, Bottolo’s service series allows Lube to find a break (9-7). Chinenyeze’s ace brings Lube to 11-8, but Trento revives. At 12-10 Dirlic comes in for Lagumdzija, and the guests find a tie with Gabi Garcia’s lungolinea (14-14). Attacks by Bottolo and Nikolov resolve a dangerous situation (17-14). Valuable plays by Nikolov and Boninfante, a hands out and a direct attack (22-18). Trento does not give up and halves the gap (22-20). Bottolo signs 24-21 and the attack of the final 25-22.
