The future of Roma’s bench could be tinged with Rossoneri. Stefano Pioli, former AC Milan coach and currently at the helm of Al Nassr, is one of the hot names to lead the Giallorossi next season. Suggesting his profile was none other than Claudio Ranieri, a symbolic figure in Italian soccer and destined to take on a new managerial role within the capital club starting in June.

Pioli, 59, has experienced important moments in Serie A, culminating in winning the 2021/2022 Scudetto at the helm of AC Milan. After his farewell to the Rossoneri club, he chose to try his hand abroad with Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr, but his experience in Saudi Arabia is coming to an end. The recent elimination from the AFC Champions League Élite at the hands of Kawasaki marked a point of no return: the coach will most likely be exonerated at the end of the season.

Ranieri, who declined the club’s offer to stay another year in coaching, will nevertheless remain at Roma as technical adviser to the Friedkin ownership. His job has already begun, and so has the Giallorossi’s future. In this transition phase, the Roman coach has pointed to Pioli as an ideal profile to revive the team. The former Milan coach would represent a choice of experience, balance and deep knowledge of the Italian league, qualities that could make the difference in an environment like the Roma one, often marked by pressure and high expectations.

The final decision will be up to the Friedkins, but Ranieri’s endorsement has already turned the spotlight on Pioli. Roma, after fluctuating seasons, is looking for a technical guide capable of bringing it steadily back to the top of Italian and European soccer. And Stefano Pioli could be the right man for this new challenge.
