F1, revolution at Alpine: Flavio Briatore returns to the pit wall

Alpine’s disastrous start to the F1 season is the basis of a real revolution: Oliver Oakes has in fact decided to leave the French team, which will entrust the role of team principal to Flavio Briatore, who in May 2024 had assumed the role (which, by the way, he will continue to hold) of executive consultant.

“The BWT Alpine Formula One team announces that Oliver Oakes has resigned from his role as Team Principal -a note published by the association, which until 2020 bore the name Renault F1, reads. The team has accepted his resignation with immediate effect. As of today, Flavio Briatore will continue as executive adviser and will also carry out the tasks previously the responsibility of Oliver Oakes”. The Italian entrepreneur thus officially returns to the pit wall as the main reference for a team&#8217s strategies after a long absence.

“We would like to thank Oliver for his efforts since he joined last summer and for his contribution in’helping the team achieve sixth place in the 2024 Constructors Championship. The team will make no further comment” reads the concluding part of the note, published on Tuesday evening, forty-eight’hours before the Miami Grand Prix.

A Alpine F1 has scored, in the first six races of 2025, just 7 points, the result of Pierre Gasly&#8217s seventh place in Bahrain and the same French driver&#8217s eighth place in the Miami Sprint Race. Still no points instead for Australia’s Jack Doohan, who did not go beyond a 13th place finish in China and is fresh from his second retirement of the season, in Florida.
