F1, Alpine: not only Flavio Briatore, there's also Franco Colapinto

The revolution at Alpine continues after the bad start of the 2025 season for the French Formula 1 team: after the resignation of Oliver Oakes, who will be replaced at the pit wall by Flavio Briatore (who will still retain the role of executive consultant), comes also the “relegation” of Jack Doohan, who will leave the wheel to Franco Colapinto.

This is, however, a temporary replacement: as specified in Alpine’s brief note published on its channels, the Argentine driver, who is back from last year’s experience in Williams, will contest the next five race weekends, thus giving the Renault heir stable time to make a final decision later.

Doohan remains with the team, however, in the role of reserve driver. Colapinto will race at Imola, Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Montreal and Spielberg, five historic tracks where he will be called upon to lift the fortunes of a team that so far has won just 7 points and, after the Miami GP, is second to last in the constructors’ standings, just one length ahead of Kick Sauber.

Winner of a race in F2 in 2024 (right at Imola) and star of two other podium races with second places in Catalonia and at the Red Bull Ring, Colapinto returns to the top open-wheel series after nine races in Williams last year, replacing Logan Sargeant. His best result is eighth place in Azerbaijan, also a tenth-place finish for him in Texas.
