Francesco Passaro’s feat: Dimitrov knocked out, racket destroyed

While waiting for Jannik Sinner, the audience at the Foro Italico in Rome is thrilled by Francesco Passaro, the author of an extraordinary feat in the second round of the Internazionali d’Italia. The 24-year-old from Perugia, outside the top 100 in the ATP rankings, beat Grigor Dimitrov, world number 15, in two sets.
Passaro won by the scores of 7-5, 6-3 in just under two hours at the Grand Stand Arena at the end of an outstanding performance.
He will face the winner of the challenge between Khachanov and Burruchaga in the next round. Passaro qualified for the third round of the Roman tournament for the second year in a row.
The Blue was splendid in response and snatched service from a very foul Dimitrov three times in the first partial. In the second set, the Bulgarian (who broke a racquet out of nervousness) continued to struggle at the serve, while Passaro played with increasing confidence and won a well-deserved victory.
The Umbrian was splendid in his response and ripped off Dimitrov’s serve three times.
The Umbrian tennis player now has a great chance to return to the top 100 of the world ranking.
