Smooth debut in Rome for Lorenzo Musetti

Lorenzo Musetti, fresh top 10 at No. 9, won his debut match in this edition of the Internazionali d’Italia by beating Finland’s Otto Virtanen, world No. 130, in the second round of the men’s singles on clay at the Foro Italico in Rome with a score of 6-3 6-2.

The Italian from Carrara did not exploit a break point in his favor in the second game of the match, but in the fourth he managed to break his opponent’s serve. It is the break that decides the first set, which Lorenzo wins by holding serve to nil.

On 2-2 in the second set another break for Musetti, who misses the first two consecutive break points but the third is the good one. A second break comes in the seventh game, after as many as four break points, and is the one that practically ends the match.

One hour and 25 minutes the duration of the match. A good debut for Musetti who closed by once again holding serve to zero and who will face the U.S. Brandon Nakashima in the third round.
