Napoli is moving decisively in the market. It does so with a name that has long been circulating on the radars of Italian big names: Jonathan David. The Canadian striker, whose contract is expiring with Lille, represents one of the prized pieces of the next summer window. According to a report by Fabrizio Romano, the Neapolitan club has reportedly submitted a major proposal to secure the performance of the North American bomber. No official agreement has been reached yet, but the step forward is concrete and significant.

For months, Inter and Juventus have closely monitored the situation of the class of 2000, but now Napoli seems to have overtaken everyone in the race for the’former Lille. The Azzurri executives, led by Giovanni Manna, have already met with the player’s agents, who will be decisive in the success of the operation. Although David will be released at zero as of July 1, the deal remains complex. Commissions, signing bonuses and fierce competition that could raise at any moment must be taken into account.

Inter Milan, in particular, remains on the lookout: with the imminent farewell of Arnautovic and Correa and the unknown Taremi, David had been indicated by Marotta as the ideal reinforcement to flank Lautaro and Thuram. But now Napoli is serious, not least to give a strong signal to Conte, who could remain on the bench if the project proves ambitious.

The idea is clear: to turn over a new leaf, to open a new cycle. The “new era” of De Laurentiis aims at international profiles and young people with great margins for growth. After a first contact faded in the season of the third Scudetto, now Jonathan David is closer than ever to Vesuvius. Scoring goals is in his DNA (25 goals this year between Ligue 1 and Champions), and Napoli wants the future to start with him and maybe even Kevin De Bruyne.
