Jannik Sinner on the rise, but not satisfied

These are the statements made at a press conference by world number one Jannik Sinner after his victory with Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo in the round of 16 of the Internazionali d’Italia.
“Getting to the quarters is a great achievement. I just tried to put myself in the best position. I have to find my rhythm again. It’s been a great match and I’m happy to have the chance to play another one. I hope to recover well and be ready. For being my first tournament I am really happy. The conditions were complicated, really heavy and it was difficult to prevail over my opponent. I am happy to have beaten a very good player, one of the best this year’s players. It’s a good step forward, but I have to stay focused because things can change quickly” began the South Tyrolean tennis player.
“I am happy, but I stay focused on the present. In the second round I felt more difficult. Today’s was a step forward. I spent a lot mentally and tomorrow, on my day off, I don’t want to think about tennis. The impact of a tournament is different than a week of practice. I knew I would have to raise the level with Cerundolo. I arrived here in Rome with a different mindset and things went well even in the warm-up. I was then able to confirm that on the field as well. The audience gives me a big hand. I am trying to figure out what my current level is and we will see if I can improve further over the course of the tournament” added the world number one.
“Tomorrow I will watch the Milan. I decided to play tennis when I was 13 or 14 years old. If you’re not in the tennis world for two or three months it’s okay. It is not the thing I wanted to do, but it happened and I had to accept it. I like to watch other sports. I suffered during this period, but now I feel lighter, I don’t have a weight on my shoulders anymore. It’s a thrill to play on the Rome Central and the’only thing I can do is to give 100 percent” concluded Jannik Sinner.
