Jasmine Paolini thanks the rain and flies to the semifinals in Rome

Jasmine Paolini flies to the semifinals at the Internazionali d’Italia. The azzurra, the sixth seed in the draw, beat Russian Diana Shnaider, number 11 in the world and 13 in the seeding, in a comeback with a final score of 6-7 6-4 6-2 after 2 hours and 22 minutes of play.
After a first set in which everything happened, with Jasmine ahead 4-0, remounted and overtaken by Shnaider (5-4), before surrendering sharply at the tie-break (1-7), the Italian managed to overturn the’outcome of the match also thanks to the rain interruption, which came at 3-0 30-0 for the Russian in the second set.
“I was very nervous, good thing it rained 5 minutes – admitted the Tuscan to Sky Sports microphones – I relaxed for a moment, I said let’s try. She gave me some tactical instructions and it worked, but the whole team helped me, slowly I regained lucidity”.
“What was wrong? A drop in focus, a little bit’ of doubt as it went on. I had started off well, with clear ideas, then a little bit’ of confusion, but I stayed there, clear-headed, and brought the game home” concluded Paolini.
The game was a good one.
