Atalanta, revolving doors: both Carnesecchi and Rui Patricio in the balance

Atalanta soccer market: not only Gian Piero Gasperini, among the nodes that the Nerazzurri management must untangle ahead of next season there are several concerning the always delicate role of goalkeeper. Both of the Dea’s number 1s may in fact change air ahead of next season, albeit with different prospects. And the eventual goodbyes of Marco Carnesecchi, Rui Patricio or both place the Orobica management in the position of having to protect itself even now.
As for Carnesecchi, in his first season as an undisputed starter between the team’s goalposts (last year’s Europa League goalkeeper, up to and including the victorious final in Dublin, was Juan Musso), Atalanta has no intention of selling him. Milan, however, is knocking, especially the moment it decides to take a step beyond Mike Maignan. And it is not certain that the Romagna-based extreme defender will not decide to listen to the market sirens.
On the other side there’s Rui Patricio, who at Atalanta has experienced a season as a pure twelfth. It is a prospect that the Portuguese may not accept for much longer, with the idea that he may leave Bergamo during the summer. Carnesecchi’s departure would be a game-changer, but the Orobica management must carefully evaluate all possibilities.
For this reason, several young profiles ended up on Tony D’Amico’s notebook. One of them leads to Lorenzo Montipò of Verona, who, however, seems to convince only as a backup goalkeeper. The discourse is different for Elia Caprile, at Cagliari but owned by Napoli, and who at Atalanta could experience a parabola similar to the one that was Carnesecchi’s: a year as an alternative to a more experienced colleague to act as his “mother hen”. Everything, however, depends on the future of the current goalkeepers under contract with a Dea that once again could change several pawns between seasons.
