These were Casper Ruud’s words in the mixed zone after losing 6-0 6-1 at the Internazionali d’Italia in the quarterfinal against Jannik Sinner about the world No. 1 himself: “Yes, he is the closest thing to perfection I have ever seen, at least as a player playing against someone”.

“Everything that came out of his racket seemed to go a hundred miles an hour’he added -. His shots came back like he was shooting, they were very heavy. It’was simply impressive”.

And then again, “It&#8217s like looking at the guy and saying ‘Wow, this is next-level’, I don&#8217t know what else to say. Obviously I would have liked it to be a more hard-fought match, and I wish I could have given people a longer match as well.

“I felt ready, but so did he,” added Ruud, who then concluded lapidarily: “The serve is the shot that disappointed me the most, then Jannik was everywhere today”.
