Monza fans take it with irony
For a few weeks now, Monza has known that it will end the Serie A championship at the bottom of the standings, resulting in relegation to the cadet tournament: a baleful season, that of the “biancorossi,” who have always floundered and have not changed gear even with the arrival of Bocchetti and the return of Nesta.
Before the match with Empoli, fans of the Brianza formation displayed an amusing banner; “Welcome back to Serie B” it read. Later, a banner thanking Silvio Berlusconi and one less kindly towards Adriano Galliani popped up in the corners.
With the current one, Monza has gone through three seasons in the top division, saving itself without fuss in the first two only to collapse in the third.
