Giro 2025: Daan Hoole wins the time trial under the Leaning Tower, Del Toro holds on in pink jersey

Daan Hoole (Lidl-Trek) won the ninth stage of the Giro d’Italia 2025, an individual time trial starting in Lucca and finishing in Pisa, at the end of a 28.6-kilometer-long course. The Dutch rider clocked a time of 32’30” ahead by 7″ Joshua Tarling (Ineos Grenadiers) and 10″ Ethan Hayter (Soudal Quick-Step).

Three Italians among the top 10: Mattia Cattaneo (Soudal Quick-Step) finished in fourth place 23″ from Hoole, Edoardo Affini (Team Visma-Lease a Bike) took one second longer than his compatriot while Marco Frigo (Israel-Premier Tech) finished the time trial with the eighth overall time, 47″ slower than the winner.

Resists at the top of the general classification Isaac Del Toro: for the Mexican of the UAE Team Emirates XRG, the advantage over the second in the standings, Spanish teammate Juan Ayuso, is 25″, while in third place is the first of the Italians, Antonio Tiberi (Bahrain Victoriuos), at 1’01” from the pink jersey. Fourth is Simon Yates (Team Visma-Lease a Bike) at 1’03”, fifth is Primoz Roglic (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) at 1’18”. Also among the top 10 is Giulio Ciccone (Lidl-Trek), eighth at 2’07” from Del Toro.

Wednesday we move from Tuscany to’Emilia-Romagna, with a not-so-simple stage, in which the men in the rankings will not be able to let their guard down: they will start from Viareggio, in the province of Lucca, to arrive in Castelnovo ne’ Monti, in the Apennines of Reggio Emilia, after a route of 186 kilometers in total.
