ATP Geneva, Matteo Arnaldi holds high the Tricolor

The only Italian in the main draw of the ATP 250 tournament in Geneva, Matteo Arnaldi continued his run by qualifying for the quarterfinals of the tournament on clay in the capital of the Canton of the same name. The current number 39 in the world rankings overcame Fabian Maroszan in the round of 16: 6-3, 7-6(3) the final result after an hour and 45 minutes of play.
During the first set, Arnaldi risked going down by a break at 2-2, avoiding the worst at the advantages, and instead winning himself the break lead after the’eighth game, the real watershed of a fraction closed 6 games to 3 in favor of the 24-year-old San Remo-born athlete.
Unlike the first set, the second one slipped without any particular jolt, with the two tennis players winning all the games on their serve until 6-6: the tie-break was balanced until 3-3, then Arnaldi put up four consecutive points and went on to win a fine qualification for the tournament quarterfinals.
A 2001-year-old, Arnaldi is looking for his first ever success in a major circuit tournament: so far he has won four Challengers in singles (Francavilla al Mare in 2022, Tenerife, Murcia, and Heilbronn in 2023), as well as two ITF tournaments previously (Bolzano and Skopje, both in 2021). His best result at ATP Tour level is a semifinal, reached in Umag in 2023 and Montreal in 2024.
