Atp Hamburg: Cobolli overcomes Davidovich Fokina and enters the quarters

Flavio Cobolli, an Italian tennis player, reached the quarterfinals of the ATP 500 tournament in Hamburg with full merit. The Roman tennis player, currently number 34 in the world rankings, overcame Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina, number 26 ATP and fifth seed in the tournament, with a score of 6-4, 7-5.

The first set was really complicated for the Italian tennis player. Cobolli started off contracted, but quickly managed to change gears: he came back the Spaniard, suffered a comeback, but with the third break of the partial he managed to close on 6-4, showing great lucidity in the decisive moments. Davidovich-Fokina, on the other hand, struggled to find continuity and committed as many as 41 unforced errors, a figure that would prove fatal in the long run.

In the second set the script becomes even more unpredictable. The Spaniard looks like he could even the score, flying out to a 5-2 lead thanks to two breaks. But just when everything bodes for a third set, Davidovich enters a tunnel of errors and uncertainties: he loses his serve three consecutive times, misses a set point in the ninth game and paves the way for the Italian’s comeback, who closes 7-5 with authority.

This is a weighty victory for Cobolli, both in terms of ranking and especially for morale. After beating Ukrainian Sahcko, and then Fokina now neu quarters he will face another Spaniard. Roberto Bautista Agut, world number 57 and former number 9 , in an unprecedented encounter: in fact, there is no previous record between the two.
