Boris Becker returned to talk about Jannik Sinner in Gazzetta dello Sport: “I was surprised by his level of play, especially considering that clay is not his ideal surface. I was a little nervous for him when he made his debut. His slate didn&#8217t seem easy at all, but he has been on the rise and now it seems to me that he has taken the steering wheel of his tennis” firmly back in his hands.

“He will never say it, because he is a true champion and he does not like to look for excuses, but I think he was not completely comfortable in his movements, which is also why his level plummeted in the second set”.

Chapter Alcaraz: “He was coming from the injury in Barcelona, he had to skip his home tournament in Madrid, he was very motivated and it showed. Against Draper, then against Musetti and finally with Jannik he was outstanding. Right now he is the most complete and dangerous player in the world on this surface”.

“Jannik has a style that renders a little less on this surface. His main characteristic is to hit the ball very early. But on clay there are often bad bounces, you have to wait before you hit, back off a little bit. That’s not his style of play, so he struggles a little bit more, whereas for fast, he’s perfect. I had the same problem.”

“It still takes a great Alcaraz to beat Sinner. But I don’t think Jannik would have to change his style of play to overcome Carlos on clay. Last year in the semifinals in Paris Jannik was one step away from beating him, so the distance is not huge. I would add one detail: the pressure will be all on Alcaraz defending the title”.
