Giro 2025, Richard Carapaz recounts winning action and confirms his goal

In Castelnovo ne’ Monti, the finish line of the 11th stage of the Giro d’Italia 2025, Richard Carapaz took his fourth stage win in the Corsa Rosa, after the one in Montevergine di Mercogliano in 2018, followed by victories in Frascati and Courmayeur in the 2019 Giro, in which he also won the overall classification. The Ecuadorian cyclist, on the sidelines of the finish, recounted the’winning action on the Apennines of Reggio Emilia.
“Today“s stage was a rather difficult one, with many riders in trouble right from the first climb – revealed Carapaz – I, on the other hand, had good legs and took the opportunity. I found myself alone, so it was like a time trial to the finish. I was not disappointed yesterday: I know that time trials are not my strong point”.
“Today I had the confirmation that I have a good condition and that I can continue to fight – added the EF Education-Easypost rider, who confirmed his goal in this year’s Corsa Rosa.”
Winning this stage is something special and very emotional, because it comes after so much work and I wanted it for my family, for my friends. I will fight until the end to win the Giro”.
32 years old to be completed on May 29, Richard Carapaz is in his fourth participation in the Giro d’Italia, a race that has always seen him finish among the top riders: in fact, he finished at the foot of the podium in 2018 (behind Froome, Dumoulin and Lopez), won the 2019 edition and missed out on the 2022 edition by a whisker, after wearing the pink jersey for several days, relinquishing it after the penultimate stage to Jai Hindley.
