Luka Modric says goodbye to Real Madrid

An era is closing, the era of Luka Modric at Real Madrid. Indeed, the Croatian midfielder has decided that Saturday, May 23, will be his last game in the Blancos’ jersey. Modric will do so in front of his public and in his stadium, which has become his home, the Santiago Bernabéu.
The midfielder officially announced his farewell to the Madrid club through a long and touching letter posted on his official social profiles.
“The moment has arrived. The moment I never wanted it to come, but this is soccer, and in life everything has a beginning and an end,” writes Modric, who will bid farewell to the Madrid public at the end of a season still played at the highest level.
The midfielder’s official social profiles have been a long and touching letter.
Exactly 12 years have passed since his arrival in 2012 in Madrid. The Croatian was paid 35 million after four fantastic seasons in a Tottenham shirt in the Premier League.
At Real Madrid Modric won everything. 590 games in a Real Madrid shirt, netting 43 goals. As many as 28 trophies in the trophy cabinet for the Croatian, including four La Liga wins and as many as six Champions Leagues. Together with the Blancos Modric had the best season of his career most likely in 2018, culminating then in winning the Golden Ball.
These are the words in Modric’s full letter:“Dear Madridists, the moment has come. The moment I never wanted it to come, but this is soccer, and in life everything has a beginning and an end… On Saturday I will play my last game at the Santiago Bernabéu. I arrived in 2012 with the dream of wearing the jersey of the best team in the world and with the ambition to achieve great things, but I could never have imagined what would come next. Playing in Real Madrid changed my life, as a footballer and as a person.”
“I feel proud to have been part of one of the most successful eras of the best club in history. I want to thank the club from the bottom of my heart, especially President Florentino Pérez, my teammates, coaches and all the people who have helped me throughout this time. In all these years I have experienced incredible moments: comebacks that seemed impossible, finals, celebrations and magical nights at the Bernabéu… We won everything and I have been happy. Very, very happy. But beyond the trophies and the victories, I carry in my heart the affection of all the Madrid fans. Really, I don’t know how to explain the so special bond I have with you, and how much I have felt supported, respected and loved. I will never forget every ovation and all the gestures of affection you have had towards me.”
“I leave with a full heart. Full of pride, gratitude and unforgettable memories. And even if, after the Club World Cup, I will no longer wear this jersey on the field, I will always be a Madridista. We will see each other again. Real Madrid will always be my home. For the rest of my life. Hala Madrid y Nada Más.”
