After seventeen stages in total, an Italian cyclist has returned to win a stage of the Giro d’Italia: breaking what seemed to be a curse was, in San Valentino di Brentonico, Christian Scaroni, with teammate at the XSD Astana Team Lorenzo Fortunato and Giulio Pellizzari of Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe completing an all-Tricolor podium.

The result fully satisfied the president of the Federciclismo, Cordiano Dagnoni, who expressed all his happiness on the sidelines of a triumphant day for Italian two-wheelers: “Congratulations to Christian Scaroni and Lorenzo Fortunato, who in San Valentino di Brentonico broke a fast in this edition of the race that contrasted with the good things seen in recent years”.

“Their arrival – he added – is a joy for all Italian fans and the right reward for two guys who, within Team XDS Astana, have carved out the role of protagonists. It is particularly pleasing to see the success of Christian, who in some moments of his career has found in the National Team the right motivation to succeed in continuing the’activity”.

“Congratulations also to Giulio Pellizzari – then said Dagnoni – who at only 21 years old, free from the duties of gregariato, has shown that he can also wear the captain’s stripes and fight in view of the general classification. The spectacle of the Corsa Rosa, in a country as stupendous as ours, is enhanced when the road begins to climb. Italians return protagonists”.
