European Open Water Championships, Gregorio Paltrinieri at the foot of the podium in the 10km

No podium for Gregorio Paltrinieri in the 10-kilometer race at the European open water swimming championships, which began in Stari Grad (Croatia).
The reigning European distance champion (time 1h47’26″27) was beaten by nine hundredths by Frenchman Marc Antoine Olivier, who took the bronze medal.
The dominator of the race was Hungary’s reigning Olympic and world champion Kristof Rasovszky, while the silver went to another Frenchman, Logan Fontaine.
Andrea Filadelli, making his distance debut, finished fifth one hundredth behind Paltrinieri, while Dario Verani finished ninth.
Tomorrow afternoon Paltrinieri will return to the water for the 5 km, while the women’s race over the same distance is scheduled for the morning.
