Luis Enrique and the'tribute to his daughter Xana: "She' always with me"
Luis Enrique after his triumph over Inter Milan in the Champions League final dedicated the victory to his daughter Xana, who passed away in 2019 at age 9 due to bone cancer. The PSG coach wore a black T-shirt with a drawing of him and his daughter together planting the French team flag on the pitch. An’echo of 2015, when Xana celebrated on the pitch with her father, then Barcelona coach, their Champions League final victory over Juventus.
“My daughter is with me from the moment she left. She left with the body but she is always with me, I do not need a Champions League win to remember her, in life you are born, you die and everything else is seen, I want to remember her with spirit”, Luis Enrique had said before the game.
His wife Elena Cullel wore a T-shirt with the name Xana and the number 9, and the PSG curve displayed a mega choreography depicting the Spanish coach with his little girl.
“Spiritually Xana is always with us. Every day we talk and joke with her, seeing photos or videos. We have a lot of material about her. My mother did not want to take out her photos. Why? Xana has to stay among us, she is the star that lights up the family. I am a lucky father. For 9 years I have had a wonderful daughter”.
