Matteo Berrettini, new forfeit: anxiety for Wimbledon

Matteo Berrettini must postpone his grass debut: the Italian tennis player has cancelled from the ATP 250 tournament in Stuttgart, scheduled to begin next week in Germany. The Roman player had included the tournament in his calendar to better prepare for Wimbledon, but he had to forfeit because he has not yet recovered from the injury that stopped him in Rome.
Berrettini had complained of abdominal pain last May 12, during the Internazionali d’Italia round of 16 match against Casper Ruud, and had been forced to raise the white flag and later forfeit Roland Garros as well.
The Blue has thus taken more time, and hopes to return to the court for Queen’s, scheduled for the following week and a real appetizer to Wimbledon. Time is running out, and Berrettini hopes to regain his form so he can have his say on grass, a surface that has given him great satisfaction in the past, such as the two Queen’s he won and the 2021 final at Wimbledon.
