Gianluigi Donnarumma categorical about the moment of the Italian national team

For the first time in five matches, Gianluigi Donnarumma ended a national team match without conceding a goal, although the individual satisfaction is countered by the disappointment of not having created the conditions, result-wise, to go ahead with Luciano Spalletti on the bench. At the microphones of ‘Rai Sport’, ’Gigio’s analysis, however, began with Monday night’s 2-0 success against Moldova.
“These have not been easy days – said Donnarumma -, the coach deserved a big win after announcing his farewell. It’s a huge disappointment not to have him as a coach anymore and I feel we could have done better. There’s been something at the attitude level that has been lacking, in the national team that cannot and should not happen”.
“With the coach and his staff we had created a relationship that went beyond the soccer field– the PSG goalkeeper then added.”
After the European Championships we had some good games, then we kind of lost our balance and that is the thing I regret the most. As footballers we have to take our share of responsibility for what happened”.
Luciano Spalletti leaves the bench of the national team after almost two years, during which he led the Azzurri 24 times: the tally is 12 wins, six draws and as many defeats, with reaching the round of 16 at Euro 2024 and the quarterfinals in the 2024-2025 edition of the UEFA Nations League.
