Cantù wins again

Aqua S.Bernardo Cantù goes on to win for the second time in a row at the Flaminio with Rimini, taking a 2-0 lead. The Biancoblù, who ran away 74-66 in Romagna thanks to a devastating fourth quarter, will thus already have Friday in Desio the first match point to close out the final.

Simioni and Valentini open the dances. Rimini tries to replicate the sprint start of Game 1, but Cantù stays in the slipstream with McGee and Basile. Johnson loads RBR on his shoulders, but Moraschini responds blow by blow. Tomassini is decisive in the final minutes to keep Rimini in command of the game. The first quarter ends 23-19.

Aqua S.Bernardo can’t find the way to the basket and Rimini takes advantage to touch a maximum lead of nine points. McGee unlocks Cantù after more than four minutes of fasting. The biancoblù try to shake it off, but Rimini avoids any attempt at a Canturino comeback. The hosts manage to defend the lead they have gained until halftime, which comes with the score stopped at 37-30.

Piccoli opens the resumption with a triple, but Simioni immediately responds. Acqua S.Bernardo tries to shift gears and gets back to within just two points. Camara unblocks the red-and-whites, but McGee surges and ties the contest. Grande scores from three and restores momentum to Rimini, which flies +11. With ten minutes to go, Rimini is still ahead 58-49.

De Nicolao, Basile and Valentini pack a partial that brings Cantù back to within one length of the lead. De Nicolao slips in the overtaking triple. Moraschini extends to +6. Rimini scores again with a free by Tomassini and Cantù loses Basile, who commits his fifth foul. Moraschini launches Acqua S.Bernardo’s breakaway with a +8 triple and Valentini rounds out the lead to double digits. Rimini tries everything with Marini and Masciadri, but McGee closes the score.
