Brit Jake Stewart of Britain won the fifth stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné.

Fifth in Sunday’s first stage in Montluçon, the Israel Premier Tech rider took his first career victory in a World Tour race, dominating the sprint ahead of France’s Axel Laurence and Norway’s Soren Waerenskjold. Fifth place for Jonathan Milan.

Wearing the yellow jersey after his overwhelming victory in the previous day’s time trial, Remco Evenepoel fell in the last kilometer, but managed to restart without difficulty.

The Belgian retains the lead ahead of the final three stages in the Alps, where he is expected to challenge Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar for the overall victory.
