Taylor Fritz triumphs in Stuttgart, beats Alexander Zverev in final

U.S. Taylor Fritz, world number 7, won the Stuttgart Open, an ATP 250 tournament on the grass in Stuttgart, beating German home favorite Alexander Zverev, number 3, in the final with a score of 6-3 7-6 in just under an hour and a half of play.
In a final that was hardly surprising given that the two protagonists were the tournament’s top two seeds, the first set was decided by a single break, which would also be the only one in the entire match, which Fritz won in the eighth game on the second useful ball and then held the serve at 15.
In the entire second set there is only one break ball and it is again Zverev who has to save it. The tie-break has no history, as Fritz wins it 7-0 and takes home his first tournament of the season on the major circuit, the ninth in his career, the fourth on grass.
By tomorrow, the son of Kathy May, a player who touched the women’s top 10 in the 1970s, will rise to world No. 4; Zverev, on the other hand, will remain at No. 3.
