In Molfetta, Carlo Calcagni signed the best-ever world performance in the 5,000 meters in Paralympic athletics. Once again, the Colonel of the Role of Honor, a Paralympic athlete of the Defense Sports Group, has accomplished an extraordinary feat: in the Paralympic athletics competition, a trial of the Italian Cup, held in the Apulian city, he stopped the stopwatch on the 5,000 meters at 14 minutes and 35 seconds, setting the best performance in the world ever in his category, T72.

An achievement that goes far beyond the sporting value and takes on a profound meaning for the entire community, particularly for the health care world, which for years has accompanied Carlo’s path of care and life with professionalism, dedication and humanity.

“It is possible to live well – says Calcagni – even with a very serious chronic, degenerative and irreversible disease like mine and this is possible thanks to treatments, therapies, but above all thanks to all the people who every day, with their work in the world of health care, make this daily life of mine a reality. To them goes my most sincere thanks.”

The Brindisi ASL proudly joins in this recognition, emphasizing how Carlo’s success is also concrete testimony to the value of comprehensive care of the person, continuity of care, and collaboration between health care and sports, especially in the rehabilitation and motivational spheres.

Calcagni is today a living example of resilience, strength and hope, a symbol for everyone, especially young people, of how sport is an essential tool for prevention, physical health and mental well-being. “Sport is life – concludes Calcagni-it is my daily medication. For young people it must become a healthy habit, a conscious choice to invest in the future of their body and mind.”

Carlo Calcagni is applauded by the General Management of Asl Brindisi and all those who identify with the message of love for life, trust in medicine and the power of change. “Never give up, despite everything and everyone, whatever it takes,” the champion concludes.
