Jannik Sinner dryly retorts to Spanish provocations

Jannik Sinner is preparing for his singles debut in Halle, a tournament he won last year and is participating in for the third year in a row. The choice of the Azzurro in Italy surprised few, but instead became the subject of provocation by some Spanish media: for them, the Azzurro would have the intention of avoiding Carlos Alcaraz (who is instead on court at Queen’s Club) before Wimbledon.
Sinner to Tennis TV clearly explained his choice: “It’s due to the fact that I don’t like to travel so early to England. Also, disputing Halle is ideal in my idea of change, before going to London. And this tournament is not low-profile at all: it is a special event that I also care about because of where I come from” stressed the South Tyrolean.
“Maybe if something good happens my father can be there and join us in the car because we are quite close”, continued the world number one.
Sinner in Halle feels at home: “There is a great atmosphere here, they always want to see good tennis. They had the best with Roger Federer (he won 10 times ed), but we also try to make this event unique, and that is why the public loves to come here. I am happy to be there and to participate”.
