Alexander Zverev honors Lorenzo Sonego and makes surprising comparison

Although satisfied with his qualification to the quarterfinals of the Halle tournament, a very heartfelt appointment being among the host tennis players, Alexander Zverev seemed not a little tried at the end of the match against Lorenzo Sonego, won only at the tie-break of the third set after the Italian had also won the first fraction. The German spoke to microphones of the tournament’s organization, making an interesting comparison.
“For much of the match I felt like I was facing Ivo Karlovic – Zverev said, discomfiting one of the most effective tennis players on serve in relatively recent times.
I didn’t know what to do when he beat Sonego, I tried to raise the level and managed to win, but I had to play a perfect tie-break to pull it off”.
Very often Zverev preferred the serve-and-volley to try to put today’s opponent in trouble: “Sonego is aggressive, I knew I had to be aggressive in my turn– he explained.”
I was able to emerge in the end, I am happy with the performance and to have moved on. Playing at home, in Germany, gets me so excited. There’s no place that stimulates me so much, it was a beautiful victory”.
Alexander Zverev is playing in Halle his second tournament of the season on grass, after the one in Stuttgart in which he reached the final, where, however, he was defeated by Taylor Fritz. In Halle, before beating Lorenzo Sonego, he had overcome in the first round the U.S. Marcos Giron with much less effort (6-2, 6-1 the score). Flavio Cobolli now awaits him in the quarters.
